Good to Know
Hospital Policies & FAQs
  • 01 Appointment policy

Patients are seen by scheduled appointment. We try to see every client as close to their scheduled time as possible, but occasional delays occur due to emergencies — thank you for your understanding. Please call your preferred location to schedule: Greenvale (516) 621-4010 or Merrick (516) 379-6200.

  • 02 What to bring & arrival

Upon arrival, please check in with our reception staff. New clients will be asked to complete a new client form, and any records you bring will be reviewed and added to your pet's file. For everyone's safety, all dogs must be on a leash and properly controlled, and all cats must be in an appropriate carrier or on a leash while in the waiting area and exam rooms.

  • 03 Surgery drop-off

All scheduled surgery, dental and anesthesia patients should be dropped off in the morning between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. No food should be given after midnight the night before the procedure, and all water should be removed the morning of the procedure.

  • 04 Payment & CareCredit

Payment is expected when services are rendered. For hospitalization and surgery, written estimates are provided and a 50% deposit is requested; additional costs of up to 20% of an estimate may occasionally be incurred. For your convenience we accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, CareCredit, cash and personal checks. CareCredit offers interest-free financing for 6 months — apply in a few minutes at our hospital or at CareCredit.com.

  • 05 Prescriptions & online pharmacy

You're always welcome to fill a prescription at an online pharmacy. Because some internet pharmacies have questionable practices, we don't work with them directly — instead, we'll provide a written prescription you can send to the pharmacy of your choice. By law, a veterinarian must have examined your pet within the past year, and depending on the medication, follow-up exams or bloodwork may be required before a prescription can be written or refilled.

  • 06 Pet insurance

With most plans you pay the invoice up front, then submit it to your insurer for reimbursement; we're always happy to provide supporting documents. With so many plans available, we don't endorse a specific company — we recommend you request and read a copy of any policy before enrolling, and ask about waiting periods, exclusions, deductibles and coverage limits. We're glad to discuss insurance with you at your next visit.

  • 07 Boarding requirements

We offer full-service, on-site boarding with the added peace of mind of medical monitoring. All boarding pets must be up to date on vaccinations, free of external parasites, and have a current negative fecal analysis. Cats require Feline Distemper and Rabies; dogs require Distemper/Parvovirus, Rabies and Leptospirosis, plus a fecal exam and Bordetella every 6 months. Holidays and school-vacation weeks fill up fast — please reserve early.

  • 08 Grooming

Our experienced groomer cares for all sizes and breeds of dogs, by appointment. Every grooming includes ear cleaning and nail trimming, and any abnormalities noticed are promptly reported to you. For your pet's safety, all pets must be up to date on vaccinations before grooming; if needed, one of our doctors can examine and vaccinate your pet during the appointment.
